Akron SCORE’s mission is to utilize the business knowledge and skills of its volunteer counselors to successfully guide entrepreneurs and existing small businesses toward their goals in Medina, Portage, Summit and Wayne Counties. The Akron chapter was formed in 1965 and has 70 counseling professionals with diverse business backgrounds. During 2012, Akron SCORE provided services to over 2,700 clients through face-to-face counseling and the 85 business workshops it conducted. All services provided by this SCORE chapter are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL.

Akron SCORE, an organization of retired and active business executives, is celebrating 50 years of advising and counseling small businesses in Summit, Portage, Medina and Wayne counties. In 2014, 65 volunteers donated 11,000 hours of their time to the mentoring of businesses in its four-county area of responsibility.  An estimated total of approximately 290,000 hours of mentoring have been contributed by Akron SCORE volunteers over the past 50 years. Private counseling firms would have charged approximately $29 million for these donated services at a modest rate of $100 per hour.  Akron SCORE receives financial support from GAR Foundation, The Burton D. Morgan Foundation and Akron Community Foundation.  SCORE mentors provide confidential, no-cost, and face-to-face and email counseling.

SCORE's mentors, comprised of active and retired business men and women, provide clients with free and confidential business counseling. Counseling can be conducted at the client's place of business, at our chapter headquarters, by telephone or via email

SCORE mentors and representatives from the local business community conduct a variety of regularly scheduled, low-cost educational workshops that provide valuable information and techniques necessary for establishing and managing a successful business.
